Scripture: Matthew 4:1-4; focus is verse 4

Opening Question to Discuss:

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had or what is your favorite meal?  Do you remember every meal you’ve ever eaten?

First Point:

Not every meal is memorable, but every meal matters.

We need to eat to keep our physical bodies healthy.  God created our bodies to use food as fuel to keep running and if we don’t eat, we get weak and sick.

Application Question

Can you imagine how healthy you would be if the only meals you had ever eaten were those that were your favorites and you skipped all other meals?

Second Point:

The Bible is a special book that God has provided for us.  Of course, we don’t actually eat the bible, but in some strange way, it does feed our spirits.

Hebrews 4:12 says that God’s Word is alive and can change us.  When we have a steady diet of the Bible, God uses it to make us more like Jesus.  When we neglect the Bible, our spirits can become weak and unhealthy, just like our bodies.  We won’t be able to be the people God wants us to be.

Application Question

What does this mean to you?

Third Point:

Since the Bible is necessary for spiritual life, we must make time every day for a “meal”.  God wants us to be healthy so “eat up”!

Consider having some favorite snacks on hand and sharing them at this point to reinforce the idea that

As a family, discuss ways in which the Bible can become part of daily life.  From your ideas, choose one that will be easily implemented and begin to work it in to your schedule and then go from there.
